Here's the thing. I've been going a long time...that's me, Jeanie Pincurl. I've earned my tail comb and pin curl clips ten times over. I have sold ice creams on Cats, dressed and repaired clothes on Cabaret. Washed synthetic, old wigs in all sorts of theatres and run around back stage in 'am dram.' I have washed brushes, painted sets and shampooed hair that hasn't seen water for over 14 days. I have carried bags, powdered noses and stayed in digs in need of a make over. Some of these things I have done free (you would call it interning now,) some I have done for travel expenses and some jobs I have been paid in kind. When you are training and at the beginning of your career you expect to work for nothing.
Fast forward 25 years. Occasionally something inspires and grabs my interest and I want to do it whatever the budget. Sometimes I meet someone at the beginning of their career who could do with a little lift and hey why not? Now and then a friend or colleague needs a favour and will return a good deed . I guess you could say that's my prerogative to choose if I want to go down that road and not charge a full fee.
However, I'm sure you will agree that if you want a professional and you want quality it's only fair that us hairdressers and make up artists charge what we are worth. If we are selling a product it is easier to see what you are paying for but when you offer a service people tend to be a little reticent in paying the full price. Please bare in mind the hours put in, the products used, the experience and the service you are getting.
I can do this job. I love what I do and I hope it shows.
Rant over.
