Little did I know that purchasing tickets to see Laura Marling live would lead to such an exciting and enthralling experience.
Our tickets arrived along with an invitation to attend the 1927 Grand Eagle Ball, hosted by Thomas Undine and his wife Josephine in their residence, The Grand Eagle Hotel.
To completely immerse ourselves in the experience we were encouraged to dress appropriately to the period and to bring various props. These included, a photograph of a past lover, a musical instrument, a suitcase of clothes; a gift for a stranger and flowers for Josephine.
We were asked to complete guest cards with personal details which we presented to the staff on our arrival. Our phones were taken in at a 'mobile' cloakroom and returned to us at the end of the evening.
Once in the hotel we were led through guest rooms, bars and an atmospheric chapel. We soaked up the atmosphere and took in whatever experience was presented to us.
I don't want to reveal too much as this could spoil the event for future Secret Music revellers, but lets just say it was an evening we will never forget. Doves, country music, interpretive dance, impromptu poetry and cinema were just a few of the surprises to be had.
This all led to the main event Laura Marling herself, who was sweet, dark and beautiful to watch and listen to.
If you ever have the opportunity to attend Secret Cinema or Music I can guarantee you will not regret it. Bring on the next one.
